Birthstones have a long & rich history stemming all the way back to biblical times. Historians believe the twelve gemstones of the breastplate of Aaron, brother of Moses, corresponded to the 12 tribes of Israel & eventually represented the 12 zodiacs & 12 months of the year. The Ratna Pariksha, a 5th-century Hindu text, chronicles the relationships between gemstones & deities, celestial bodies, & days of the week. Vedic astrologers place a heavy significance on birthstones, believing that carrying or wearing a certain gem invites in fortune & cosmic harmony.
