Where to Place Your Crystals Based on Feng Shui ❅

If you own crystals, you have most likely found a space in your household to display them. Whether hidden safely inside a cloth bag or proudly showcased on a shelf, crystals can find their place as beautiful & meaningful additions to your home. But, did you know, you can actually utilise the power of crystals to bring luck & improve the flow of energy in your home or workspace?

Feng Shui, also called the Art of Placement, is an ancient Chinese traditional practice that seeks to establish harmony between an individual & their environment. This is achieved by using space, colour, the placement of furniture & objects, as well as the basic principles of the Five Elements, Ying & Yang & the Bagua, to positively shift & transform the energy of a space. When crystals are intentionally used in conjunction with Feng Shui, they can assist in creating a harmonious living environment that allows ‘Chi’ (pronounced: Qi) to circulate freely & therefore attract positivity & good fortune.

To begin working with Feng Shui it is important to clear out clutter in your space to allow the energy in your rooms to move freely. Tidying up your home, especially in places where energy enters & exits, removes energetic blockages. Some items that may be negatively affecting your space include: broken furniture, dead plants, objects under the bed, incorrectly placed mirrors, barriers across doors/windows, or meaningless possessions that carry a heavy energy or memory (such as a gift from an ex). Burnt-out light bulbs & leaky faucets often symbolise bad fortune & should be tended to.

Now that we understand some basic ideas, it is important to become familiar with the 5 elements of Feng Shui; Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. An environment incorporating all five elements in a balanced way feels harmonious. The function of crystals in Feng Shui is usually by colours based on these corresponding five elements:

yin yang energy

Different rooms & areas of your home serve different purposes. As such, each has its own Yin & Yang requirements that should be balanced accordingly. This can be done through adding certain crystals based on their corresponding element.

  • Yin Energy

Steady, still, dark, introspective, cool colours. Yin rooms include bedrooms or meditation spaces. Yin elements include Earth, Water & Metal.

  • Yang Energy

Active, bright, change, expressing, social, warm colours. Yang rooms include living areas, kitchens & dining rooms. Yang elements include Earth, Wood & Fire.

Feng Shui Bagua

The Feng Shui Bagua is a tool used to map out the various energy areas of your home. It consists of 9 sections, sometimes displayed as an octagon shape, or other times as a square grid. Different sectors of the map relate to different aspects of life, like career, wealth or family. By looking at this map over your home, room or workspace, you can discover the most prosperous location to display your crystals. Choose the placement of your stones in relation to the associated element (e.g. green crystals for a wood element area) or to the meaning of the area itself (e.g. crystals that bring abundance should be placed in the wealth & prosperity corner).

To begin, you will need a floor plan or layout of your home (or specific room), as accurately scaled as possible. Place the Bagua over the drawing, with the front entrance situated at the lower end of the grid. Mark 8 circles on the space to label the areas of the Bagua. In each circle you will want to place the crystals that correspond with the energy of the space.

Some go-to ways of displaying crystals in the home:

  • Home Protection

❅ Keep Black Tourmaline & Selenite at your front door to invite cleansing & protection. You may also want to ‘grid’ your home by placing a protective stone at each corner.

  • The Ultimate Crystal

❅ Amethyst is one of the most popular Feng Shui crystals in China. This is because it can be placed in various rooms around the home to enhance the energy of that space (more wealth, more wisdom etc.)

  • Add Some Passion

❅ If you’d like to add more passion to your love life, place red or orange crystals in the south-west corner of your house or bedroom. Place a crystal on either side of the bed to create symmetry & equality in your relationship.

  • A Space To Sleep

❅ For children’s bedrooms, keep soothing, pastel coloured crystals like Celestite & Blue Lace Agate to inspire relaxation & sleep. Avoid bright, warm coloured stones which can keep little ones awake.

  • Tucked Away

❅ Place crystals behind glass if you want to suppress their energy in your home (ie. stones that aren't currently needed or have a very strong vibration.)

  • Making Money

❅ The wealth corner is the perfect place to keep abundance crystals such as Citrine & crystal trees.

  • Small Stones

❅ Keep smaller-sized crystals in your bedroom. Avoid keeping large
statement pieces nearby where you sleep, as it may disrupt the energy.

  • Home Gathering

❅ Place a crystal cluster in the centre of your living room to inspire a sense of community & harmony.

  • Brighten Your Space

❅ Hang crystal sun catchers by the window or in dark corners.

  • Statement Pieces

❅ Place your largest stones in the largest room in your home.

  • Good Vibes Only

❅ Place Shungite next to your electronics to keep away bad vibes.

  • Honour What You Love

❅ Place crystals near sentimental items like photos, books or your favourite decor.
