Hiddenite is an incredibly rare green aluminium lithium silicate mineral & a member of the Spodumene family. It was named after William Earl Hidden, who discovered it in North Carolina in the year 1879. Hiddenite was once referred to as "lithia emerald," due to the vibrant emerald hue it sometimes produced. Coloured by chromium, this special stone can be found in only a few localities including Brazil, Madagascar, Burma, Afghanistan, Pakistan, &, of course, the United States, where the original mining location is now open to the public & known as The Emerald Hollow Mine in Hiddenite, North Carolina. Similar to its close relative Kunzite, Hiddenite is pleochroic & prone to fading in sunlight.
